Leading food companies are partnering with FoodLogiQ to unlock the modern supply chain with FoodLogiQ Connect
Whole Foods Market
Driven by a deep commitment to sustainability and a transparent food supply chain, Whole Foods Market launched Responsibly Grown, a supplier rating system that assesses growing practices that impact human health and the environment.
The rating system labels fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers as “Responsibly Grown” to help Whole Foods shoppers make more informed choices in the produce and floral departments at the retail grocery chain.
Whole Foods Market began development of the program in 2012, worked extensively with growers, FoodLogiQ, and other experts throughout the process, and then officially launching Responsibly Grown in 2014.
Within the program, prospective suppliers seek approval by entering data about their products, supply chain, and certifications into the Whole Foods supplier portal using FoodLogiQ’s software.
Once approved, the system surveys vendors on Whole Food’s standards around growing practices, pesticide use, and waste management among other things and then qualifies them for the listing of “Responsibly Grown.” Whole Foods stores, in turn, print identifying labels with the designation and place them on floor signage by the products.
Responsibly Grown illustrates Whole Food’s commitment to supply chain transparency and sustainability while empowering their customers to make informed decisions about the produce and flowers they are buying.
The program has also enabled Whole Foods Market’s to further fulfill the company’s motto of “service, integrity, quality” while differentiating the grocery brand from its competitors.
Whole Foods Market launched Responsibly Grown by rating hundreds of products with key suppliers, representing more than 50 percent of produce nationwide.
