Tyson Is Trying (Successfully) to Take Over the Protein Market. Is That a Bad Thing?

Chipotle recently launched its own track-and-trace program with one of Frequentz’s competitors, Durham, North Carolina-based FoodLogiQ. Chipotle had previously relied on its own tracking system, but last year’s outbreak exposed a critical lapse: Once ingredients got to stores, all tracking stopped. Tomatoes, for instance, from any number of sources, were mixed together during food prep.

Software Firm FoodLogiQ Raises $19.5 Million in Funding Round Including Tyson Ventures
FoodLogiQ LLC, which develops supply-chain software to track food safety, raised $19.5 million in a new funding round that included investments by Tyson Foods Inc. subsidiary Tyson Ventures and sensor-manufacturer Testo Inc. The Durham, N.C.-based company’s platform allows a food company’s suppliers to provide |details about the processes or pesticides used in farming, when and how products were shipped, audit filings and other factors a company wants to keep on file.
